The Longitudinal Report uses Star assessment data to compare growth for the same group of students across multiple years.
How do I get to this page?
- Log in to Renaissance.
- On the Home page, select Reports; in the drop-down list, select Administrator. (Note: If you would normally only have access to administrator reports, there will be no drop-down list; selecting Reports will take you directly to the Administrator tab.)
- On the Administrator tab on the Reports page, under “Star Benchmarks,” select Longitudinal Report.
Who can do this with default user permissions?
School Network Level Administrators, School Network Dashboard Owners, School Network Staff, School Level Administrators, School Staff
- Use the Subject drop-down list to select the subject for the report: Reading or Maths. The Assessment Types (on the right) will automatically be selected based on the chosen subject: Star Reading (for Reading) or Star Maths (for Maths).
- Use the School drop-down list to select the school you want to create the report for.
- You can only create the report for one school at a time.
- School level administrators, school staff, and teachers can only select one of their own schools.
- If you only have access to a single school, you will not need to make a selection (the School drop-down list will not be shown in this case).
- Use the Year drop-down list to choose which years to include in the report. You can tick individual years or choose Select All at the bottom to tick or un-tick all the years at once.
-
If you want to use demographic data to further refine the data in the report, select Choose Demographics...
By default, the "All" option is chosen for Ethnicity, Gender, Language, and Year Level. To reduce the scope, choose the "Select" option at the top of the appropriate column and then tick your selections in that column.
In the example above, the user has selected two Languages and three Year Levels, while leaving Ethnicity and Gender at the default "All" options. Note: The Filter Reports by Ethnicity user permission may be set to prevent the use of ethnicities as a filter.By default, the "All" option is chosen for Characteristics. To reduce the scope, choose Select Characteristics... and then tick each characteristic you want students in the report to have. You must also choose any or all (after "Include students with") to specify whether students with any of the selected characteristics will be included in the report or only those with all of the selected characteristics.
Once you are finished choosing demographic options, select Apply at the bottom of the window to save your choices (or Cancel to close the window without saving your choices).
In the example above, the user selected two Characteristics (Children from Service Families and EAL Competent). Because any is selected, the report will include students who are Children from Service Families, EAL Competent, or both. If all had been selected, only students who are both Children from Service Families and EAL Competent would be included. Note: The Filter Reports by Characteristics user permission may be set to prevent the use of characteristics as a filter. - Use the Timeframe drop-down list to select which timeframe you want to create the report for (the last 3 years or the last 5 years).
- Use the Group By drop-down list to choose how you want the information in the report to be grouped (by school network or school).
- Tick Hide Groups Without Data (below the Group By drop-down list) if you want to have groups without test data omitted from the report.
- Once you are done choosing report options, select Update Report.
- The report will generate and then open at the bottom of the page.
- If you chose to group the information by school network, each table will show data for the students in all the schools and years you selected, tracking the performance of the same group of students over three (or five) years as they advance through each year. In each table, the PR score from each student's latest test is compared to the school network benchmark.
Note: The Longitudinal Report always uses school network benchmarks. If the school network benchmarks are changed, you should re-run this report the next day, as all activities need to be reclassified in relation to the benchmark overnight.
Only students who are still enrolled in the school during the current year are included in the report; students from prior years who have been unenrolled from the school since then are not included.
Students who did not take a test in one of the included years will not be included in that year's data.
In the current year, the most recent test is used; in prior years, the last test taken is used.
This report shows whole-number percentages; due to rounding, the total percentages may not add up to 100% (they may add up to 99% or 101%).
In the example above (for Star Reading), the students are being tracked over a three-year span as they move from one year to another. - If you chose to group the information by school, the data is refined further, with each year in each school having its own table, tracking the performance of the same group of students over three (or five) years. In each table, the PR score from each student's latest test is compared to the school network benchmark.
